This was an Award winning project that involved the adaptive use of a 1920’s commercial building and convert it into residential use. The renovation and structural works undertaken were meticulously designed to preserve the building's historical features while adapting the space for modern functionality. An environmental assessment identified areas that required treatment.
The contaminated soil was excavated and properly disposed of, followed by the installation of a barrier to prevent future contamination from affecting the building’s foundation. Additionally, a filtration system was integrated to manage any groundwater issues, ensuring a safe environment for occupants.
The internal load-bearing brick walls were preserved as much as possible, with careful restoration techniques applied to repair any damaged areas. These walls were cleaned, repointed, and structurally reinforced to ensure they continue to bear the weight of the roof and upper levels, if applicable. The goal was to keep the aesthetic character intact while enhancing their durability.
